Homeowner Tip: Check Your Attic!

One of the most common issues we find during home inspections in the attic area is partially disconnected exhaust fan ducting, such as bath fans, kitchen hoods and dryer vents. If these fans are not properly sealed and connected to the exterior termination point, they will begin venting moisture directly into the attic. This can lead to stains and deterioration of your roof sheathing, potentially causing expensive damage such as microbial growth and wood rot.

To avoid these issues, we recommend inspecting your attic area periodically, or hiring a professional to do so if you are not comfortable navigating your attic space as caution must be used as to not fall through the ceiling. During an inspection, the area can also be checked for roof leaks, squirrel entry, venting or insulation issues and other potential problems.
